Background
Reflectolites represent the latest technology alternative to shining
headlights on glass reflectors to guide motorists at night.
Sixty years after Percy Shaw introduced the Cats Eye, dipped headlights
reaching only 80 metres ahead with clean headlights cannot adequately
guide motorists in the dark or in wet conditions. In wet conditions,

prismatic reflectors are rendered useless and fail to
reflect headlights back to the driver. Completely the opposite occurs,
with headlights being projected upwards and randomly to dazzle oncoming
drivers whilst rendering the road ahead 'pitch black'.
Since their introduction in 1998, over 50 County Councils and HighwaysAgency
areas throughout the UK have deployed self illuminating roadstuds
as a means of accident reduction and prevention.
